THE STORY. . . Rain. Hiking Mud. Lots of mud. The network of trails which criss cross the river delta are always wet. And where there is water. . . well, you get the idea. I’ve been through some serious mud in my day, but this is the kind of stuff that will suck the boots right off your feet. After getting lost in the thickets of tall grass, we finally found it: the cauldron of lacy falls which deliver frothy glacier water into a crystal blue stream. Bruarufoss is certainly one of the more unique destinations in all of Iceland. The entire waterfall is maybe seven feet tall on a good day. But size is not what makes a place special. Here, we see hundreds of delicate cascades splashing across the landscape as the milky blue current rushes through an obsidian ravine of volcanic rock. It’s like no other place, and it’s worth all the mud in the world.
