GOLDEN CALM

California, USA

THE STORY. . . Elegant blobs of golden jelly float gracefully through a crystal blue void. The organisms swim with a flutter, their lacy tentacles waving across the water like slow motion kite tails. This is quite possibly the most tranquil display of serenity I have ever witnessed. Now, if we could just do something about the swarm of screaming children currently mobbing the Monterey Aquarium. The halls of this great institution are filled with the shrill cries of tiny humans as they hammer their little pink fists across the glass walls separating them from the marine life. Capturing this image was a battle of attrition. One must wait for the jellies to swim across the tank in the perfect configuration before pushing the shutter. All the while, the mini humanoids shriek, push, cry and collide. Wait! There it is! The camera fires in rapid succession, capturing a panoramic painting of golden serenity. Consider yourself lucky that photographs do not come with sound. . . you’re welcome.
