Snow Covered Tree Fall Colors

FIRST SNOW

Colorado Springs, USA

THE STORY. . . An early winter storm passed over my home town of Colorado Springs one October evening, gracing us with a dusting of pristine white snow. Our fall colors were in full swing at the time, giving us the very rare opportunity to witness autumn’s vibrant showcase combined with a snowy coat.

This little tree caught my attention, and much to my chagrin, my first attempt to capture this image turned out to be out of focus! Horrified at my mistake, I returned early the next morning to find the entire scene completely unchanged from the previous day. Not one flake of snow had moved! Seizing what I consider to be the luckiest moment of my photography career, I capitalized on this second chance. F16 never fails, and I came home with one of my favorite images of all time.
